We’ve grown accustomed to the idea (and sometimes the experience) of a McLaren picking up speed. But the company’s expansion still seems almost as dramatic as the performance of its products.

Woking reports that last year, it sold a record 1,654 cars around the world. That marks the third consecutive year of sales growth, although 2015 brought only a modest increase of 0.06 percent compared to 2014, when it sold 1,649 units. But those overall figures don’t tell the whole story.

The largest portion of the vehicles sold last year were in North America, where McLaren found homes for 519 new cars last year. The dealership in Dallas alone sold more cars than any other in the world, even though a second Texas location opened in Houston as well. Out of the twelve new showrooms that opened last year, five were in North America, with another in Montreal to open this year.

What’s more is that McLaren expects its sales to grow even further by the end of 2016. Its North American sales have already increased by 78 percent in the first half of this year, selling in 451 cars between January and June of 2016 – almost as many as its sold in the region all of last year.

By year end, and with the new volume-driven Sports Series coming online, McLaren could see its sales double. The company expects it could sell as many as 1,100 vehicles in North America throughout 2016, and over 3,000 around the world.

That would put McLaren just behind rivals like Lamborghini and Aston Martin, who sold 3,245 and 3,615 units last year respectively.
