Will The Next Citroen C4 And C5 Morph Into Crossovers?

Following the introduction of the all-new C3, it’s the next-gen C4’s and C5’s turn and they could get a radical redesign.

Currently a rival for the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus and Opel/Vauxhall Astra, the C4 could shift to a completely different segment, as the brand’s product chief, Xavier Peugeot, hinted while talking cited to AutoExpress.

“There will be a new C4, but it will not be conventional. It is possible to change the image of a model name and we can do that with that car. Perhaps we will change its silhouette“, the French official said.

The same recipe is expected to be followed by the upcoming C5, too, which might shift focus from the Ford Mondeo and Opel/Vauxhall Insignia and enter the SUV segment: “It’s clear that we want to be a mainstream player and to do that, we need to cover the various segments. So yes, we want a Citroen offering in the D segment, where the C5 currently is. But would it be a direct successor to the C5? I’m not sure“, Xavier Peugeot added.

Citroen already confirmed a new crossover a couple of weeks ago, which will be produced in Rennes by 2018, based on the EMP2 platform, which is used on numerous models from PSA. Rumor has it that this will actually be the production version of the Aircross Concept, which could go on sale under the C5 Aircross moniker, as an indirect successor of the D-segment saloon, which will be dropped from the lineup.
