Holden Unveils New Models For Australia, Including Re-Badged GMC Acadia

A slew of all-new and facelifted models have been introduced by Holden for the Australian market.

The range of new models consists of facelifted Barina and Trax models, the latest Holden Astra, the Trailblazer and the Acadia.

The roll out of the Acadia for the Australian market is certainly the headline for Holden’s plethora of new local models. The vehicle is in effect a re-badged version of the GMC Acadia unveiled earlier in the year and Australian-bound models will reach local shores in 2018. Although it remains to be confirmed, no mechanical changes are expected meaning the model should come standard with a 2.5-liter engine that includes a stop-start system, just like the U.S. car.

As for the latest Holden Astra, it is the same as the Opel Astra sold throughout Europe and compared to the outgoing model, is 200 kg lighter. The hatchback also comes complete with full matrix LED headlights as standard.

Joining the Acadia in the country’s swollen SUV market will be the 2017 Holden Trailblazer, serving as the replacement to the Colorado 7. The model retains its predecessor’s 2.8-liter turbo-diesel engine, continuing to deliver 197 hp and 500 Nm of torque.

Also added to Holden’s range is the latest Trax, already revealed in the U.S. in Chevrolet guise. Beyond the badges, the car remains the same as its American twin meaning it’s easy to differentiate from the previous model due to its refreshed design, both inside and out.

Last but not least is the facelifted Holden Barina (Chevrolet Sonic). It will go on sale locally in November and be offered with a 1.8-liter petrol four-cylinder and a smaller 1.4-liter turbocharged powertrain.
