DS To Launch A New Model Every 12 Months For The Next Six Years

Hot on the heels of the DS 7 Crossback making its online debut, the French brand’s ambitious product plan has been revealed.

Autocar reports that for the next six years, Citroen’s luxury arm will launch a new model every 12 months. The first of these will be a DS 3 Crossback aimed at rivalling the Audi Q2 and later followed by an Audi Q7 rival baptized the DS 9 Crossback.

Additionally, it is speculated that a replacement to the current DS 3 will launch and that two luxurious sedans, dubbed the DS 5 and DS 9, will launch early next decade. It is thought that the future of the DS 9 hinges on whether Chinese consumers continue to demand big, luxurious sedans in the coming years.

Although the company is remaining hush about its plans, DS vice president of marketing Arnaud Ribault hinted that this expanded family of sedans and SUVs is indeed on the cards.

“It’s true that to develop we will need a family of SUVs and a family of saloons. But where that takes us in terms of sizes and the order of our launches is less clear. The DS 7 represents a start; tradition may dictate we follow it with one smaller and one larger SUV – why not? – but we haven’t announced this,” he said.

Damn. They’ll actually be able to claim they have a luxury brand.

    Unlike some manufacturers…

But still on a FWD platform from Peugeot…

Just like Audi’s FWD platforms from VW, your point is?

      • Elmediterraneo

My point is here we talk about a development from an entire premium line-up.
And to develop a premium brand you have to build cars with longitudinal engine layout.
That’s what Toyota did for Lexus, same thing for Nissan with Infiniti, Hyudnai with Genesis.
And as a french brand, Peugeot will never understand that for DS which will sell a bunch of overpriced and clunky Peugeot cars…

By the way, Audi uses the transversal engine layout only on the smaller models : A1 Q2 A3 TT Q3…
        The bigger ones A4 A5 Q5 A6 A7 Q7 A8 Q7 uses the MLB with a longitudinal engine layout.
And then the R8 uses the rear mid-engine platform MSS shared with the Lamborghini Huracan.

You also have to know that DS was launched 6 years ago. They aim at having an Audi-like evolution. That took 40 years, bro.

People keep complaining about how boring the premium segment is. Give new brands a chance and you’ll have better competition, better cars, and the consumers will all benefit from it. Cheers.

          • he has a point, but yours is very Valid. Don’t forget that DS 7 crossback is the first European DS to be born as a DS, DS5, DS3 were born as Citroën. At the time Citroën said they will never make it as seperate brand. Peugeot 308, 3008, 508 are far from bad cars, but lack premium powertrains and built quality (and size) . If PSA does buy Opel, and finally put in production the hybrid powertrains they’ve been working on for decades, they might have a chance.

“And to develop a premium brand you have to build cars with longitudinal engine layout” – is it a rule?

Let the tree grow before you chop it down.

I am hoping that this brand will make it to the U.S
