An In Depth Review Of The New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabrio

When your only rivals are your smaller and bigger siblings, then you know you’re in a class of your own. Such is the case with the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet.

In convertible form, the all-new E-Class from Mercedes-Benz is not only longer and more spacious than the previous generation model, but according to Autogefühl, it’s also just as refined and quiet as the Coupe or Sedan models.

That is indeed very high praise for a car that, assuming you don’t count the BMW 6-Series Convertible as somewhat of a rival (which you probably shouldn’t), is almost one of a kind.

We went through the entire video, which is pretty long at 46 minutes, and came away with the impression that this seems a formidable car, as long as you know what you’re looking for. It’s not as sporty as the C-Class Cabriolet, nor is it as magnanimous as the drop-top S-Class, but in a vacuum, it’s everything the Coupe and Saloon models are, minus the roof.

The reviewer did mention that mastering all of the car’s on-board gadgets takes a while to get used to (perhaps a bit too long), but some people can be faster learners than others.

Tell us if the 2018 E-Class Cabriolet has you convinced as well.

Has no rivals because it’s $52k with 241 hp i-4

Nailed it! 4-cyl GLA and CLA here in the U.S. are just plain noisy and rough at idle. Fyi, E Coupe’s base engine is the V6 in E400 guise.

    • I agree…paying north of $50K for a buzzy, 4-Cyl, hyper-turbo with questionable longevity is just not my thing and frankly is bizarro…

  • Enter Ranting

Who’s responsible for the trend of giant fake grilles in a jowl-shaped front bumper? I have nothing but contempt for that person.

Also, I look at enough screens every day. I want real, beautifully crafted gauges in a luxury car, not video game graphics.

And sooooooo much cheap, shiny black plastic in the interior. Yuck.

This dude seems like a good guy. I just can’t make it through his reviews. There’s no need to make a car review 46 minutes long.

    • BlackPegasus

His fans fawn over him like he’s Brad Pitt ?

I love Autogeful reviews. Thomas always presents all the design details and isn’t afraid to speak his real opinions. It’s refreshing to see a reviewer who doesn’t just spew manufacturers’ marketing lines and do driving impressions.

  • I have been watching Thomas and his crew at Autogefuhl for years…they do the most comprehensive review for the average car driver…i.e., they review cars the way 99% of the drivers will use them…what I really like is their focus on design, ergonomics and attention to detail in build quality…no one does it like them…

Netflix pleeeeeeaaaase make Thomas a Tv show that review cars that normal people drive just like his youtube channel – im 100% sure it will have more following than the grand tour over the long run
