Turn 10 Studios manager Alan Hartman recently purchased a Ford GT so the Forza Motorsport boss took a trip to Canada to see how the supercar is built.
Joined by Forza vehicle art director Gabe Garcia, the pair take a tour of Multimatic’s production facility which is far removed from traditional Ford plants with a normal assembly line.
The pair eventually met up with Ford Global Marketing Manager Henry Ford III to examine a model in the light booth to ensure it is free of defects. Ford then explains the company has about 100 employees and one car is finished nearly every day.
The production facility is mostly devoid of machines as much of the work is done by hand. As a result, it takes about nine days for a car to be completed once it arrives for final assembly.
After checking out the GT’s carbon fiber wheels, the duo sees the paint booth where they find the panels are painted by people instead of robots. This is a time consuming process as the panels require multiple coats of paint before baking for about an hour.
When everything comes together, the Ford GT rolls out of the plant under the power of a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine which develops 647 hp (482 kW).
