Trump Administration Doesn’t Lash Out At Ford For Shifting Focus Production To China

President Trump has been an outspoken critic of companies that outsource jobs to Mexico and Ford has been one of his more frequent targets.

Following news that the company would shift Focus production to China and Europe, many observers were expecting a Twitter rant from the commander-in-chief. Surprisingly, that hasn’t happened and some officials in his administration seemingly praised the news.

According to The Detroit Free Press, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said “The Ford decision shows how flexible multinational companies are in terms of geography.” However, he added “I believe that as President Trump’s policies and reforms take hold, more companies will begin to locate their facilities in the U.S. as several German and Japanese automakers already have.”

The lukewarm response could be in part to Ford’s announcement that no workers will lose their jobs as a result of the change. Instead, employees at the Michigan Assembly Plant will begin building the Ranger in late 2018 and the Bronco in 2020.

Ford’s president of global operations, Joe Hinrichs, doesn’t think customers will mind either as he told Bloomberg “Consumers care a lot more about the quality and the value than they do about the sourcing location. iPhones are produced in China and people don’t really talk about it.”

Of course, Ford isn’t the only American automaker to import vehicles from China as the Buick Envision is built there and so is the Cadillac CT6 Plug-in Hybrid.

And neither did Obama for letting hundreds of other companies go under his 8 year reign. GE is one example.

    • Kingsley Mpofu

I think it may have gone over your head this one

      • Moveon Libtards

You lost to President Trump, so what does that say about you?

Not the sharpest tool in the tool box…

        • Matt

          Did Kingsley run for President?

          • fabri99

Perhaps it ran among those other 17 (more?) running for the republican party nominee.

    • rodriguez256

Obama wasn’t the one giving Ford crap for building in Mexico and then not saying anything when they went to China.

      • LeStori

Manufacturing in Mexico helps improve the job situation and hence reduces the demand to ’emigrate’ to the USA. Trump actually needs a strong Mexican economy as an expensive fence will do very little to stop anyone from moving over a shared border. Shifting production to China is actually not going to help border control. so the fact that there is no ranting and raving from the Oval office is interesting …

        • rodriguez256

Exactly, I agree with all your points.

        • Six Thousand Times

Plus Mexican-built vehicles contain, on average, 40% US content. Chinese ones? Zero-ish.

        • LeftLanePrius

Unfortunately in Mexico, the wealthy elites, politicians, and drug lords reap the financial benefits.

        • gary4205

Trump ain’t building a fence! In fact, he has kept all of Obama’s failed policies in place, despite the nonsense he spewed on the campaign trail.

The GOP allowed this lifelong democrat pig to run as a “Republican” thus committing suicide.

Actually, manufacturing made some sort of a comeback under Obama as wages rose in China and (at that time) high transportation costs due to the high price of oil.

But most of those manufacturing jobs paid far less than what manufacturing jobs used to pay with little or no benefits and/or required fewer workers due to automation.

      Guess what?

CEOs are incentivized to cut costs (highest being labor) by moving manufacturing to places where wages are low (where the US can’t compete) or via automation.

That’s how they justify their 7-8 figure compensation packages.

Remember, this is what the Big Business Republicans always wanted and got.

      • gary4205

Nope. These companies are public. The shareholders are the ones who demand maximum profit.

  • LeftLanePrius

So are these cars being sold in the US or are they for the Chinese/South East Asia market?

    • Zandit75

Current Focus factory for the SE Asia markets is in Thailand. Ford Australia has still not confirmed if the new model focus is even going to be sold in Australia yet. Same with the new Fiesta. The just superseded model which is also currently being built in Thailand, may be the last one we get in Australia.

Of course because Trump loves China.

Of course not a word from the Orange one.

Can’t risk China retracting the trademarks the Orange one and Ivanka were awarded (which were granted posthaste)

      • Moveon Libtards

        Sore loser, much?

        Keep crying.

        • Enter Ranting

He loves China, because that’s where he and his daughter make their crappy products. MAGA – in China!

        • gary4205

          Poor Trumpanzee.

    • Moveon Libtards

China came to him… Florida to boot. China did as President Trump told and opened their market to American beef and worked to control North Korea. Obama got shamed in Asia by being forced to get off at the back of his plane and China never came.

Great to finally have an Alpha Male back in the White House.

      • Enter Ranting

Alpha male! Drumpf whines CONSTANTLY about his new job! On Twitter! Like a 12-year-old girl! I think you’re confusing “alpha male” with “sexual predator.”

        • LeftLanePrius

I believe you are thinking of Anthony Weiner.

      • gary4205

        Alpha male? How ridiculous.

  • Kash

He didn’t even say anything and you’re still writing articles about it? Really?

Ford just announced it YESTERDAY. Give Trump time to react to it if you want to write about it, but maybe he has more important things to be worrying about. I could see if a week had gone by and he hadn’t said anything, but it’s only been 26 hours between stories.

    • Six Thousand Times

And yet when it was Mexico…the twit tweeted post-haste.

      • Moveon Libtards

        Fakenews alert!

    • fabri99

Give him time to tweet something.

    • Enter Ranting

Oh, he does have more important things to think about. The investigative noose that’s tightening around his neck, for one. There’s also the fact that he can’t fill key positions in his administration, because nobody with any skill or morals wants to work for him. Also, how can he maximize his time at Mar a Lago this month?

  • Moveon Libtards

Because Ford is run by a bunch of Liberal Demoncraps who don’t a crap about America or the American worker. So it wouldn’t help to lash out, as you put it.

Under President Trump the stock market has skyrocketed to record levels (great for your pension), debt is down, millions of new jobs and billions in investments pledged and starting to happen, and business optimism is at a record high.

    Eh, Bradley?

    • SteersUright

Yes, because Trump did everything you said in just the less than one year he’s been in office. He and his genius are are solely to thank for all good things that have happened to the American economy. Sigh…. You’re clearly a passionate fellow, too bad you’re also a very, very confused one as well.

    • Stigasawuswrecks

You know he’s still working off of Obama’s economic policies and rising economy, right. Wait until October when Trump implements his plans before you say that.

      • gary4205

Trump will be in the middle of impeachment hearings by October.

  • Moveon Libtards

Sooooooo happy we never will see Obuma in office again and HITLERy will NEVER be President EVER!

    • Matt

      Who are you talking to?

      • Six Thousand Times

        So many blocked users…

    • Stigasawuswrecks

I think you have your tinfoil hat on backwards.

The Chinese have bought the Trump family and paid cash. President Xi has approved special treatment and patent protection to the Trump family. Just like for Russia, Trump will no longer say a bad word about China. This con man behaves like a cheap hooker.

  • Benjamin B.

But he’s the reason Ford moved from Mexico. Ford execs are cowards for appeasing this clown. North American production makes much more sense, but I have a feeling the MkIV Focus may be moving up market in Hatchback and Wagon forms while the Escort/Focus Sedan may as well be more premium. I predict Ford may do what Honda does: spilt production between regions. The Focus Hatchback and Wagon/estate are built in Germany while the sedan is sold exclusively in North America, Russia, and China – therefor is assembled in those three places. I predict sedans will come from China while Hatchbacks come from Germany as the MKII RS model comes from already. We could get a Wagon again, fingers crossed.
Anyway Chinese imports are not actually cheaper, but governments force it.

Trump is too busy selling visas to wealthy Chinese businessmen.

Trump’s ranting and raving about Mexico was red meat for his retard cult.

Trump bragged about stopping Carrier from moving jobs to Mexico, but guess what, off to Mexico they go.

Unions have helped kill manufacturing jobs.
