A 20-year-old female college student from South Carolina managed to escape a kidnapping all because she’s able to drive a stick shift.

Last Wednesday, Jordan Dinsmore left work at 12:30 am and pulled into a parking lot near her housing complex. Suddenly, three men approached her and threatened to shoot her if she wasn’t quiet, The New York Post reports.

Upon forcing the woman into her car, the would-be thieves realized her car had a manual gearbox and immediately, one of the gang members fled. The other two forced Dinsmore into the driver’s seat and made her drive to an ATM where she withdrew $300 and returned to the car.

As she formulated a plan on how to escape, Dinsmore left her seatbelt unfastened. After being instructed to drive to the house of one of the thief’s relatives where she would be raped, she threw the car into neutral and jumped out.

The following day, a 17-year-old male and a 15-year-old male were arrested in connection to the incident.
