When Dodge first introduced the world to their new Challenger Demon, word had it that it could run the quarter mile in just 9.65 seconds, making it quicker than some of the world’s fastest supercars.

Among those were the McLaren 720S and the Tesla Model S P100D, two of the fastest-accelerating stock vehicles to ever find their way onto a drag strip. Both the McLaren as well as the Tesla are capable of sub 10-second 1/4 mile times.

But guess what, so is the Dodge Demon, as long as you fill up the tank with race fuel and put on a set of drag slicks with skinny front tires. It’s the only way it will utilize its full 840 HP and achieve the aforementioned 9.65-seconds time.

In this video, you’ll see a slightly modified Demon cover the 1/4 mile in just 9.34 seconds at 148.9 mph (239.6 km/h), which is an unbelievably fast run even for a car that’s said to have in excess of 1,000 HP at the crank (over 900 HP at the wheel). Mods include 1,700 cc injectors, E85 conversion, 2.65 upper pulley, catless mid-pipe and Hoosier tires.

It’s also worth pointing out is that this car was actually faster than the Hennessey Demon equipped with the HPE1000 package, which managed a 9.38 second run at 146.7 mph (236 km/h).
