If you look at the current 2018 F1 Constructor Standings, you’ll find that Williams is dead last, having scored just 4 points thanks to Lance Stroll’s surprise P8 finish in Azerbaijan.

Meanwhile, rookie driver Sergey Sirotkin is the only person on the grid who has yet to score a point this year, something that’s indicative of just how poor the team has been performing, especially compared to 2014 and 2015, when Williams had the 3rd best car.

Now, fans hoping for a quick turnaround might need to holster their enthusiasm, especially with former Williams driver and 1997 F1 World Champion, Jacques Villeneuve, stating on the record that there’s no hope for the team.

When asked whether of not Williams could improve this year, Villeneuve told Autosport: “No. The team is dead.”

“There is no management. There was a choice back then [in 2013], you either put their heiress or the heir [in charge]. And they put Claire instead of Jonathan [who runs Williams’ heritage division].”

“Big mistake. Obviously, just look where the team is at now,” concluded the former Williams driver.

While that might be a very harsh assessment, there’s no denying just how far the team has fallen ever since their competitive days back in 2014 and 2015, when the Mercedes-powered Williams car finished third in the Constructor Standings – not to mention their halcyon days in the 1990s, where they won (or battled for) championships.

Villeneuve went on to add that “you have to admit that you’re screwed. I don’t know how it can recover. I just don’t see it.”

“If you have two drivers without experience, that won’t help. Not in a team like this.”

Even though the British outfit has declined to respond directly, Claire Williams did mention last week that her team is in the process of identifying all of its weaknesses, stating that their current form also represents an opportunity to “actually make greater steps forward.”
