Elon Musk Tweets About How It’s Time To Create A Real Mecha

It seems as though SpaceX founder and Tesla CEO Elon Musk is a big fan of anime films, as he went on to tweet about how now’s the time to create a “Mecha”, which in the world of science fiction stands for basically a giant fighting robot.

This past weekend, Musk tweeted out a trailer for a Japanese anime movie called ‘Your Name’. He then followed that tweet up with one that simply said: “It is time to create a mecha.”

Now, whether he just thinks that it would be cool to finally see one in real life because mankind finally has the technology (hypothetically) to attempt such a project, is one thing. However, if he actually meant it as an announcement for something that he’ll be overseeing, well, that’s another thing altogether.

Would it be interesting to see a working giant robot in real life? Sure, why not. Yet, what would be the point of one? In both movies and cartoons, such machines are used exclusively to fight off giant monsters or alien invaders. Last time we checked, we had neither of those here on Earth – unless Elon knows something we don’t.

In the real world, governments spend billions on defense programs every year, buying everything from tanks to fighter jets, aircraft carriers and so on. We’ve yet to see a government official declare that a giant robot would be in any way more efficient than something that can neutralize its target from a distance. Of course, there’s a reason why some things are just meant to remain in the realm of science fiction, as giant robots just aren’t that practical.

In the end, odds are Musk was just joking around, or simply wanted to let his followers know how much he’d like to finally see a Mecha in real life. He has however come through before on seemingly lighthearted propositions, such as when he first announced The Boring Company.

Oh boy. He’s into some nasty weed this time.

  • Ilbirs

For now I believe that Elon was just joking, but we can’t discard the possibility that he took too seriously the “real life Tony Stark” nickname that was given to him after his SpaceX managed to make possible for a rocket to land upright.

There are two people in the world that should never be allowed to tweet again. Musk is one of them. Anyone care to guess the other?

    • HN

Why don’t you pass the laws to stop Elon Musk doing anything ?

      • I THINK THE INSINUATION WAS TO STOP THE OTHER ONE.

I say tweet away… who cares?

      Kanye?

Last time he joked about selling flame throwers once he ran out of clothing, and he actually did so don’t be surprised if we see a SpaceX Gundam pretty soon.

NO, don’t give him ideas. Please, Take Optimus Prime (or any of the things from Pacific Rim),. but leave our Gundams alone.

Probably should get Tesla in order before starting up another venture

    • HN

      Tesla is BORING!

      • Dr Bjorn K. Von Strangefingger

        I agree. . . Tesla’s been played the F out!

        • Mike anonymous

I’m not sure if you missed the pun, or if your insinuating a new one that I’m not aware of.

  • Mr. EP9

Dude has been smoking weed again. Ignore him.

  • Mike anonymous

Ok sure sure, but a few things.

#1. The things with the Lawsuits is not over, you still have the whole “pedo-claim” thing to deal with (and that could be “relatively” more damaging than the FCC thing)

#2. I personally believe you (he) needs to get not only Tesla in order, but finish up on ALL of the other ideas and claims he as made (regarding the Boring Company & Space X) and (not just start, BUT) complete… one thing.. at a time.

#3. You want to build a mecha,… ok,. umm… WHY? what for? who’s attacking us? what would the reasoning behind (for) a mecha be?

    • Mike anonymous

If I may be completely honest (as I always am),.. the reason behind WHY he want’s to build one, is scarier to me than the fact he might actually build one.
