2020 Mitsubishi ASX Gets Comprehensive Makeover, Will Debut In Geneva

Mitsubishi will unveil its significantly updated ASX compact SUV at the Geneva Motor Show next month.

Mind you, it’s not an all-new model but yet another facelift for the SUV that’s also known as RVR in Asia and Outlander Sport in North America.

In all fairness, though, it’s the most comprehensive one so far since its launch in 2009 and brings it in line with some of Mitsubishi’s newest products such as the Eclipse Cross.

The front end sees the bulk of updates, receiving Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” front design concept. It features a prominent grille, new headlights that are very similar to those of the Eclipse Cross, a distinctive LED cluster incorporating the turn signals and fog lamps, as well as a new bumper that integrates a skid plate.

Changes at the rear consist of new LED taillights as well as a new bumper featuring a skid plate for a more rugged look. Other exterior updates include the addition of three new colors: Red Diamond, Sunshine Orange, and Oak Brown.

Inside, the 2020 Mitsubishi ASX sees improvements to the Smartphone-link Display Audio (SDA) infotainment system that now features a larger 8-inch touchscreen, TomTom navigation system on top trim level models, as well as an app that will check fuel remaining and provide navigation to the nearest fuel stations, plus guidance on optimum maintenance and inspection intervals.

In Europe, the 2020 ASX will offer a 2.0-liter MIVEC four-cylinder gasoline engine linked to either a five-speed manual transmission or the INVECS 3-III CVT with 6-speed Sports Mode, as well as front- and all-wheel-drive versions. No specs were released but we assume it’s the same engine offered in the Outlander for European markets. In the larger SUV, the naturally aspirated unit delivers 150 PS (148 hp) and 195 Nm (144 lb-ft) of torque.

The same engine is already offered as standard in the U.S. market 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport so it’s safe to say the 2020 model will keep it. Expect the 168hp 2.4-liter unit from the range-topping GT grade to carry on as well.

        Maybe they would have money if they invested their resources into making one, single, very nice vehicle, that was a real production version of one of the concepts they built. (basically to the point where it’s a concept that you can drive). Then use income generated from that to grow.

        The concept above actually uses a lot of technology that you can use in/for a production ready vehicle. Maybe build something to go up against the Kia Telluride. The Design talent is there, just go ahead and actually build it.

      It’s a face lift not all new, there is only so much you can do in a face-lift. Given its purpose and price point the interior looks fine.

        I disagree totally with you. Here in Brazil we had the Fiat Palio, this car had four (I said 4!!) facelifits, each one with a completetely different interior design, this during long 14 years (yes the base was the same). We, also, have the Volkswagen Gol (a cheap car that runs in line since 80’s), when the car changed in 1995 to a more modern and round like design, the same base was utilized until 2012, with a lot of modifications, in and out of the car. If you live in Europe maybe you remeber the VW Fox, this car also keeps been build here in Brazil, had a lot of modifications too. So, Mitsubishi, sorry but, shame on you.

          They’re waiting to share a platform with the Renault-Nissan Common Module Platform which at the earliest won’t happen until next year. That’s why it’s taking so long for a New Redesign.

      ..but in other parts of the world like Asia-Pac they sell well. The update looks great and the car will most likely be priced incredibly well, feature packed with a good warranty. These are solid reliable cars that go about the job of family duties with little fuss. Would rather this than some over priced Euro with expensive maintenance, expensive parts and reliability that means you ditch it after the warranty.

        The ASX would need to be reliable, it has almost no other redeeming features. It’s just an unrefined appliance that’s now on its 32nd facelift.

      To be honest I don’t care much about fake exhaust pipes. So long as they are visually pleasing and actually add to the vehicles deign, then I am ok with them.

      The additions make it more visually pleasing.

    it is good that Japanese Mitsubishi Japanese manufacturer Japan has removed the old diesel engine that was offered on the Mitsubishi Asx third generation crossover 4×4 compact before the current old current redesign I refer to the old second falcelift to receive and what the third redesign of the new ” rejuvenation ” anyway, I bet that the next generation of the compact 4×4 Mitsubishi Asx ” compact SUV, the fourth generation that will arrive in 2022, will probably benefit from another new engine, on gasoline but hybrid hybrid technology and the future Mitsubishi Asx 4 compact SUV that will probably arrive late at the end of 2021 or early 2022 I believe I bet the next generation of the compact 4×4 Japanese crossover Mitsubishi AS X ” fourth will actually be the Mitsubishi EX hybrid compact SUV version expected soon to enter production at the end of 2021 or early 2022
