2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid Hits UK Showrooms On April 1st

After retiring the Avensis, Toyota is now ready to launch its replacement, the Camry, in the UK on April 1, with deliveries commencing on July 1.

Pricing kicks off from just £5 ($7/€6) under £30,000 ($39,025/€34,720) for the Design model, which gets standard LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors at both ends and reversing camera. A leather upholstery, automatic air-con, keyless entry & go, 7-inch infotainment system, heated and power adjustable front seats and others are also standard.

From £31,295 ($40,710/€36,220), customers will be able to order the Camry Excel. This trim level adds LED fog lamps, LED dual-beam projector headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels and a wireless charging pad for smartphones. It also comes with a range of driving assist systems such as Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Clearance Sonar and Lane Change Assist.

At launch, the mid-size sedan will be available with a choice of five exterior colors, including the new Graphite Shadow and Platinum White Pearl.

The 2020 Camry will only be available as a Hybrid. This means that it’s powered by a 215 HP hybrid powertrain comprising a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor, which returns between 50.5 and 53.3 mpg UK (5.6-5.3 l/100 km / 42.1-44.4 mpg US) on a combined cycle. Carbon dioxide emissions are rated at 98-101 g/km, according to the grade.

  • Loquacious Borborygmus

This is either a very brave or foolish move in a market where, unless you are premium, sedans/saloons are not the choice of the masses. They instead are besotted with their hatchbacks on stilts lifestyle crossovers.

    • Super Rob

I would think the RAV4 Hybrid would be the big seller there.

      • Loquacious Borborygmus

Funnily enough, due to the badge snobbery in the UK, the Lexus hybrid suv seems to be quite popular.

      • designer_dick

Big seller? Not really. In a good month, they’ll shift 300 RAV4 Hybrids in the UK. Their best-selling hybrid model is the C-HR Hybrid, which shifted 2,405 units in February this year. I expect the Camry’s sales figures will be closer to the RAV4 Hybrid than the C-HR.

        • Super Rob

Sounds like the price of gas is so high they can’t even afford to drive 40mpg vehicles. It has to be closer to 50.

Hideous front end and the dashboard is a mess. Who buys this crap?

    • Seats & a steering wheel

Looks are in the eye of the beholder, but in the metal I thinks it’s a very sleek and handsome vehicle inside and out with a premium look and feel.
It’s the one car that seems to hold its ground in a shrinking sedan market in many countries. In the US and Australia for example it’s doing quite well despite the crazy demand for ugly blobs on stilts aka SUV/Crossovers.

Do you have anything better to do than post hate comments about the Camry on every post you can? I’ve seen you on so many. Calm down, you don’t like the Camry. We get it. Other people don’t too whiles some people do like it. Welcome to the human nature.

      sadly 400k Americans a year.

  • designer_dick

So they’re launching it on April Fools’ Day? That seems quite fitting, but the joke is on Toyota. The Camry never sold well in the UK even when large, non-premium family saloons were still incredibly popular. Hybrid or not, t’ll sell even less well now that the UK market is obsessed with SUVs, lifestyle crossovers and premium badges.

    • Able

The previous Camrys sold in the UK were crap, whereas this one is with the times by offering a hybrid drivetrain.

      • designer_dick

Having a hybrid drivetrain won’t insulate it from the market’s shift away from large, non-premium family saloons.

  • Able

    “A leather upholstery”

    Learn some grammar, FFS!

  • Thetruthísntalwayspopular

This won’t sell in the UK at all. Previous iterations of the Camry never did and the non prestige sedan market in the UK is minimal at best.

  • Paul

UGH. That cheese slicer nose and awful instrument panel.

  • Bash

….. and that is not a joke.
Here I fixed that heading for you.
Seriously though, it looks so good in those pics. I know, we all k ow that in real it won’t look half that good.

  • Knotmyrealname

    Lincoln MKZ front anyone?

  • Antmindel

The Camry is the best selling medium car in the world.
Very roomy interior, massive boot, fully equipped and very good looking inside and outside in this brand new model.
    Very safe.
Hybrid will be a favorite with Uber crowd.
Very reliable ,and should be very wel built in Japan ???
