More than a year after the official announcement made by Volkswagen, the T-Roc Convertible was captured testing on public roads.
The prototype, which looks more like a jacked-up, open-top hatchback than a convertible SUV, hasn’t dropped any vinyl stickers yet. Still, it’s very easy to sketch up its design using nothing more than your mind: just imagine the regular T-Roc with a rag top, and perhaps some minor updates.

The cabin layout will be carried over from its fixed-roof sibling, although Volkswagen may try to draw a line between the two by offering different color trims and perhaps new upholstery options in the convertible. Expect a similar equipment level, too, with the base T-Roc drop-top likely getting standard 8-inch infotainment system, DAB Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, climate control, autonomous emergency braking and others.
A selection of petrol and diesel engines will be on offer, and while no official info is available, we presume it will include the 2.0-liter TSI and TDI units, as well as the smaller 1.0- and 1.5-liter petrol ones and the 1.6-liter diesel.
The T-Roc Convertible will be unveiled next year and will be built at VW’s Osnabruck plant in Germany, where the Golf Cabrio Mk6 used to be assembled.
