New Corvette C8 ZR1 With Extra Downforce Mods Could Look Something Like This

Great things are coming for the all-new 2020 Corvette C8, which has only been unveiled in base Stingray spec thus far. Still, even at its “lowest”, the mid-engine C8 is capable of extremely impressive things, such as reaching 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in under 3 seconds.

So what does this mean for future versions of the car? Well, they will undoubtedly feature more power, as you would expect from a Z06 or a flagship ZR1 model.

According to unnamed sources from within GM, the C8’s new chassis has been designed with electrification in mind, meaning that mild- and plug-in hybrid versions are in the cards, with a potentially fully electric model also within the realms of what’s possible.

Now, if acceleration is your main concern, you could also argue in favor of an electric motor mounted in front so as to provide the C8 Vette with all-wheel drive – such a setup would make plenty of sense on a track-oriented spec like the ZR1.

As for what such a car might look like, well, if past ZR1 models are any indication (and they should be), we can expect more hardcore aerodynamic bits to be strapped on – like a massive rear wing, more pronounced spoiler lip up front, beefy side skirts and so on. Or, what we’re seeing here in this rendering by X-Tomi, which is unfortunately missing the current ZR1’s blacked-out A-pillars.

Inside, it should boast a more racy design, with standard body-hugging seats, more Alcantara throughout and other unique touches.

Performance will remain a mystery for the time being, but we expect that a future flagship Corvette C8 model will be able to hang with any other supercar in the world.

  • TheAmerican2point0

Yeah it would obviously have a hood like that.

    • Nordschleife

While i know that hood is non-functional on a mid-engine car, it does look good to me.

      • Tumbi Mtika

        It looks pretty stupid though.

      • LJ

It’ll let your luggage breathe 😉

      • Ben

It could be used for down force.

  • B.Stokes

Um, no… 1st, definitely not that hood; It’s mid engined. I do expect to see more downforce aero to be applied to the hood though. 2nd, We’ll probably see more vents around the b-pilar and engine compartment for cooling and front fenders for downforce. 3rd, I’m thinking some slightly flared fenders.

  • Six_Tymes

    Um, yes… it looks great!

  • Tumbi Mtika

I don’t think a hood like that is all that useful for a car with the engine in the back. Aside from that, this is way too pedestrian for a Z06, nevermind a ZR1. This is not it, chief.

    • My dude the pista has something very similar so… Yeah let me just leave it there…

      • Andrewthecarguy

Not at all. What the Pista rocks is for downforce, not space for the engine to breathe.
X-Tomi basically took the current ZR1 and added elements to the C8 … while forgetting where the engine is in this car.
        Still a gorgeous design though.

      • Tumbi Mtika

        Not exactly, no.

    • Rick Alexander

YA GOTTA SEE THE BIG PICTURE. There is a stout LS motor up front, with an electric motor in the back. Either that, or X-Tomi hit his head before creating this render.

  • Thunderbolt

The big hood is to store extra NOS tanks.

  • Gregory Cassanova

I only like the side skirts and front spoiler

This is what you get when a redneck “customizes” a car. You should check out the Corvette Forum see all of the crap people do to modify their ‘Vettes.

  • john1168

No, no, no. It won’t look like this. The large front hood vent won’t be there as the engine is in the rear. Also, I really believe the Z06 and ZR1 will have active aero, so, no giant fixed rear wing. But, we’ll see I guess.

  • SteersUright

That Yellow/Gold color is beautiful. Reminds me of a former e46 M3 yellow.

    • john1168

Yeah. That color combo is fantastic!

  • Ben

    1) I hate lighter yellow shades, but I’m a sucker for a deep yellow(not gold)
    2) I’d like to see vents above the front wheels, like Viper ACR and GT3RS have to reduce air pressure
    3) A roof scoop would be awesome too. Hearing the increased induction noise above your head at WOT…man.

  • MarketAndChurch

    And 1,000,000 pounds of downforce.

  • Nastinupe1911

WTF? Why the hood? It’s a MR set up. See this is what happens when you give people nice things. They don’t know how to behave.

  • Ben

Devil’s Advocate, the hood design might actually work. The vents aren’t used to cool the engine(obviously), but pull air up and over the vehicle, acting as passive down force. Many vehicles have this, such as Ford GT (assisted with fans) and Ferrari’s 488 Pista to name a few.

    • john1168

All true but it’s not on the Stingray so I wonder how the air flows with this setup. The radiators May be in the back but if they’re in the front, they may be using the outlet airflow for underneath aerodynamics. Of course that could all change with the Z06 and ZR1 models.

Is anyone else realllllyyyy dissapointed at the mid engine C-7?

    • Dennis James

      No.
