A Ford job listing on LinkedIn has revealed that the next-generation Ford Mustang will arrive for the 2023 model year.

The job posting for a “Wind/Rose Noise and Air Leakage Plant Vehicle Team (PVT) Engineer” was spotted by the guys over at the Mustang6g Forum. In the description of the role, Ford reveals the new Mustang is much closer than many had expected.

“Be part of the proud team to deliver Ford and Lincoln quality on the current model Mustang (S550) and the final sign off on the Ford 2023 S650 vehicle program,” it reads. Later in the job listing, it states that the new Mustang “launches in 2022 as a 2023MY.”

This is all very interesting because last year, sources reportedly close to Ford told Automobile Magazine that the new Mustang wouldn’t launch until the 2026 model year at the earliest and could possibly be delayed even further until 2028 or 2029.

There remains some debate about what platform will underpin the next-generation Ford Mustang. For some time it was believed the new pony car would adopt the flexible CD6 platform of the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator. While that’s still possible, some users at the Mustang6g Forum speculate Ford may have changed tack and decided to retain the platform of the current Mustang with a plan to drastically improve it to make the new car lighter.

Road & Track reached out to a Ford spokeswoman about the job listing and were informed that the automaker doesn’t comment on future products.
