A man in Washington has been lucky to survive after a metal pole speared through the windshield of his Toyota.

As reported by Komo News, the incident happened at around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday on southbound I-5 near South 320th in Federal Way when Andrii Mordavets got the fright of his life.

Speaking to local media, Mordavets said he did not believe the metal rod came off another vehicle and instead came from the road, likely flicked up by a car in front of him. Shocking images of the damaged car show the rod pierced the center of the windshield and got stuck in the roof.

After pulling over, Mordavets noticed that his head had been struck by the rod and that he was bleeding. He proceeded to call 911 and paramedics soon met him at a nearby gas station before he was transported to St. Francis Hospital. The driver received eight stitches before being released.

Had the metal rod shot through the windshield just a few inches to the left, it could have fired directly into Mordavets, potentially killing him or leaving him seriously injured.

The Washington State Patrol is asking locals to contact them if they have any information about where the metal rod could have originated from.
