The second-generation Suzuki Ignis has undergone a mid-cycle makeover, four years after entering production.

Presented in Japan last month, it has now arrived in Europe with identical looks all around. Sporting a more SUV-flavored design, the front end boasts a new grille, while the two bumpers get silver trapezoidal garnishes.

Three new metallic shades (Caravan Ivory Pearl, Rush Yellow and Tough Khaki Pearl) have been added to the palette, raising the number of single- and two-tone paint finishes to eleven and seven, respectively.

Things remain familiar in the cabin, although Suzuki has added an upgraded touchscreen infotainment system and redesigned meter cluster in the instrument panel. Enhancing the design are Gunmetal Grey or Blue accents that can be matched to the Grey or Blue seat upholsteries.

The 1.2-liter DualJet engine carries over and includes a new dual-injection system. The output is unknown in the Euro-spec model, but in Japan’s Ignis it produces 91 PS (90 HP / 67 kW). The mild-hybrid system has also been enhanced, featuring a higher capacity lithium-ion battery that has grown from 3 to 10 Ah.

The system can store the kinetic energy generated during deceleration, charging the battery that powers up a tiny electric motor. The latter then assists the engine when accelerating, thus improving the fuel efficiency. The engine can be paired to a CVT as an option.

Suzuki will launch the facelifted Ignis in the United Kingdom in April. Pricing and other details will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
