Hyundai’s N division will dip its fingers in the hot crossover segment with the Kona N, which is reportedly due this summer.

The latest test car has partially shed a thick layer of camo, replacing it with a full-body wrap, revealing more of the front and rear ends. The model-specific bodykit of the Kona N will help it stand out compared to the regular facelifted Kona, thanks to a pair of aggressive bumpers, a bigger roof-mounted spoiler, dual exhaust pipes, and a slightly modified grille.

The prototype seen here rides on black alloy wheels, with a V-spoke pattern, and red brake calipers. It also sits a bit closer to the ground than the rest of the Kona lineup, as it features the necessary sport suspension setup that, alongside the rumored all-wheel-drive system, will help it attack corners with a bit more gusto.

Power is understood to come from the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the i30 N and Veloster N, where it develops 246 HP as standard and 271 HP with the Performance Pack.

The higher output is believed to be on track for the Kona N, as well as the recently revealed eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while those who would rather change gears by hand will be able to order it with a six-speed manual gearbox.

Inside, the Kona N will receive some sporty touches getting new graphics for the infotainment system and instrument panel, special upholstery, and a pair of body-hugging sports seats at the front.

As mentioned above, the model is believed to debut this summer, in July, although nothing is official yet and unsurprisingly, Hyundai said that it does not “comment on speculation” when asked about the rumored unveiling date.
