Everyone is well aware of the Suzuki Jimny’s capability off the beaten track and the tiny SUV’s dimensions open up possibilities that are denied to larger off-roaders.

For example, the Jimny is a formidable tool on very narrow trails in the forest. As it turns out, it can also be used for rather unorthodox purposes, as a driver from China proved. A man in the Xinjiang autonomous region was filmed driving his previous-generation Suzuki Jimny onto a pedestrian overpass!

If you wonder why and how he ended up there, it’s because he wanted to make a U-turn on the motorway after having missed his exit. As a result, he drove the Jimny up a flight of stairs, maneuvered through the tight overpass (God knows how), then drove down on the other side.

Luck wasn’t on his side that day, however, as a police officer supervised his descent, waiting for him at the other end of the overpass. The policeman was obviously not impressed with the unusual shortcut the driver attempted to take.

According to South China Morning Post, the man was fined 200 yuan ($285). Since the bridge had a weight limit of 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) and the third-gen Jimny tips the scales at 985-1,150 kg (2,171-2,535 lbs), it looks like luck was on the daredevil’s side, after all.

This incident serves to strengthen the Jimny’s reputation but also sets a dangerous precedent. Next time you’re waiting for the elevator or stand in line at the grocery store checkout counter, be on the lookout for a Jimny. You can never know where these tiny devils can materialize.
