The latest Plus Four follows the Morgan tradition by offering the classic car looks, hand-beaten aluminum panels and hand-made ash frame.

Nevertheless, beneath the skin lies an aluminum platform that makes it more rigid, and a modern 2.0-liter turbo-four. Made by BMW, it pumps out 255 HP and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque and can be matched to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

To get the most out of the new Plus Four, you’d have to go for the auto ‘box, which adds £2,000 ($2,516) to the £62,995 ($79,263) starting price in the United Kingdom. In this spec, the car will do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds, but go for the standard stick shift and the time will increase by 0.4 seconds, and you will also lose 37 lb-ft (50 Nm) of torque. The output and top speed remains unchanged in both versions, which will do 149 mph (240 km/h).

Other modern features are present, including LED headlights and Bluetooth connectivity. The seats are now more supportive and the brakes firmer, but driving it on a twisty road surely brings out the best in it. Comparing it to a Porsche 718 Cayman or an Alpine A110, which also have four cylinders and cost about the same, is not really valid, simply because this is a different kind of sports car.

Carfections’ Henry Catchpole got his hands on the 2020 Plus Four, and has some very interesting things to say about it.
