The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 has been a long time coming and according to a report, it will be quite the performer.

When confirming the Mustang Mach 1 in late May, Ford said it would come outfitted with a 5.0-liter V8 engine but didn’t specify just how much grunt that powertrain would pump out. Images provided by the car manufacturer also provided us with a good idea of what the finished production model will look like.

Now, according to Ford Authority, who spoke with sources familiar with product plans at Ford, the Mustang Mach 1 will pump out no less than 525 hp and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque.

Not only woult that give the Mach 1 a significant power advantage over the 2020 Mustang Bullitt that offers up 480 hp and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm), but could also make it faster than the current Mustang GT350 and GT350R. The latter two models use a bespoke 5.2-liter flat-plane crank V8 with 526 hp and 429 lb-ft (582 Nm). This could prove important as the Mach 1 will effectively fill the void left behind by both the outgoing Bullitt and GT350 models.

It remains unclear just how Ford will extract so much power out of its 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine. However, it is possible the car manufacturer could upgrade the camshafts and the heads to safely and reliably extract 525 horses and bucket loads of torque.

Recent photos of the pony car issued by Ford show that it will receive a bespoke front end that includes two circular air intakes on either side of the front grille. The muscle car will also feature a large rear lip spoiler, a diffuser, and quad tailpipes. Prototypes seen testing have been rocking distinctive 19-inch wheels with massive 305/30 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.
