Fresh off the facelifted BMW 5-Series making its debut last week, these renderings speculate what the updated M5 will look like.

As with the rest of the 5-Series family, the new M5 will adopt slimmer and more aggressive headlights which to our eyes, work wonders on upgrading the front fascia of the super sedan. Elsewhere, the front kidney grilles have slightly grown in size and now feature black surrounds as opposed to chrome. Rounding out the modifications made to the front include black contrasting air intake surrounds.

Designer zer.o.wt has also imagined the LCI BMW M5 from the rear. The changes are shaping up to be slightly more subtle than they are at the front and could be limited to different taillights that incorporate sharp new graphics.

While recently hosting a question and answer session on Instagram, BMW chief executive Markus Flasch provided the world with a teaser of the new M5 in Competition guise. It previewed the new headlights, blacked-out grille, and black trim above the air intakes. He added that the car will be unveiled “within the next couple of weeks.”

Complementing the exterior changes could be a new steering wheel, upgraded driver assistance systems and a tweaked infotainment system that includes Android Auto and support for over-the-air updates.

Both the facelifted BMW M5 and M5 Competition will be powered by a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine. In standard M5 form, this engine will deliver 592 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque while the M5 Competition will pump out 617 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm). A new flagship variant will also join the facelifted family and is expected to adopt the M5 CS name. It should be slightly more powerful than the M5 Competition while also being a touch lighter.
