The legacy of the Confederacy is a hot topic these days as a number of cities and states are removing statues of Confederate soldiers.

The Confederate flag has also been making headlines as it was recently banned at NASCAR events and will soon be removed from Mississippi’s state flag.

Of course, the flag is also famous for being featured on the Dodge Charger from The Dukes of Hazzard. Known as the General Lee, the flag prominently sits on the roof of the car and has been causing controversy for years.

Despite this, the Volo Auto Museum isn’t going to hide their General Lee which is the last surviving model from the first season of the TV show. Speaking with the Northwest Herald, the director of the museum said “We feel the car is part of history” and “We’ve got people of all races and nationalities that remember the TV show and aren’t offended by it whatsoever.”

Brian Grams went on to say the car is a “piece of history and it’s in a museum.” While that’s a pretty logical argument, Grams took things even further as he compared it to Nazi memorabilia by stating “If we’re going to get complaints about the General Lee being here, we’ve got much worse items over in our military building.”

While the Confederate flag is seen as racist by some, Grams said they haven’t gotten any complaints about it. Instead, he claimed “Several people have reached out with positive comments about us leaving it on display,” and “complimenting us for leaving it there and not having a knee-jerk reaction to remove it like a lot of places are.”

The Dukes of Hazzard ran for seven seasons between 1979-1985 and spawned a movie in 2005 starring Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott. Of course, the series has also spawned numerous General Lee replicas and tribute cars.
