Nissan has redesigned the Rogue (aka X-Trail overseas) for the 2021 model year, and with the compact SUV arriving at dealers at the end of the month, it’s time to take a closer look at it.
Sporting new looks and improved interior comfort, it is offered in four trim levels, starting with the S, which is available from $25,650. The SV and SL have MSRPs of $27,340 and $32,000, respectively, and the range-topping Platinum starts at $35,430.

Based on a new platform, the 2021 Rogue is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 181 HP and 181 lb-ft (245 Nm) of torque. This engine is matched to a standard CVT and front-wheel drive, although all-wheel drive is available on all trim levels, for an extra $1,400, alongside other gear, such as the SV Premium and SL Premium packages, which will set you back $2,660 and $1,320 respectively.
Other options include the 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay, diamond quilted leather seats with contrast stitching and heated seats, among others.
Kelley Blue Book drove the top-of-the-line Rogue Platinum and found it quite spacious at the back, with a decent-sized boot, quiet cabin, good visibility and a comfortable ride. The CVT is nothing to complain about, apparently, unless you’re really pushing it, so most owners won’t feel the difference to a regular auto ‘box.
Overall, the new Rogue has improved on many levels, but could it actually be the one to go for in the crowded compact segment? The video review might not fully answer this question, but is a good starting point.
