It’s only been a couple of weeks since the 2021 Toyota Mirai was unveiled, and already, Modellista has previewed a handful of updates it has developed for the hydrogen fuel cell-powered sedan.

Compared to the previous-generation Mirai, the new model has a far more coherent design, ditching the questionable looks of the old car in favor of something more typical of a premium luxury sedan. Fittingly, Modellista’s upgrades aren’t too brash but still manage to add some nice aggression to the exterior of the Mirai.

At the front, Modellista has developed a chin spoiler that adds to its presence on the road. Elsewhere, the special Toyota division has created new garnishes for the door handles and side mirrors, as well as a set of extended side skirts. Rounding out the custom touches are some subtle add-ons for the rear bumper.

Toyota has yet to release technical specifications about the new Mirai, but it is believed to feature three hydrogen storage tanks and be good for a range of 528 miles (850 km) under Japanese standards. Power is provided by a single electric motor with a reported 180 hp and 221 lb-ft (300 Nm) of torque, allowing the 2021 Mirai to reach a top speed of 109 mph (175 km/h).

Customers in the U.S. will have two grades to choose from. Sitting at the base of the range will be the XLE, while slotting above it will be the Limited. Pricing details haven’t been announced yet, but U.S. sales will commence in December.
