Approximately eight months after its premiere, the new generation Nissan Rogue (known as X-Trail overseas) has been struck by its first recall.

Out of the 2,146 units recalled, which were built from September 24 to November 11 last year, one percent are estimated to have an improperly secured fuel hose that could leak, thus increasing the risk of a fire. It might also disconnect completely, leading to possible engine stalling, and this would increase the risk of a crash if it happens while driving.

Review: 2021 Nissan Rogue Leaves Very Little Room For Complaints

“Nissan conducted a manual offline rework activity to confirm the performance of the fuel pump. This activity required the fuel line at the tank and potentially the fuel tank sending unit lock ring to be removed”, the NHTSA states. “During reinstallation, the fuel line may not have been fully locked and/or the lock ring may not have been fully seated, the condition could result in a fuel odor and/or Malfunction Indication Light illumination or fuel leakage.”

Having been informed earlier this month, dealers are already aware of the issue and they will inspect the fuel hose and lock ring, repositioning and securing them if necessary. All work will be carried out free of charge, but since the vehicles are still covered by the factory warranty, Nissan will not reimburse owners who have already fixed their 2021 Rogue SUVs. The recall is expected to begin on March 1, and in the meantime, owners can reach out to them at 1-800-867-7669 using the recall number PC791; they can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) at 1-888-327-4236.
