Visteon, ECARX and Qualcomm Technologies have announced plans to develop advanced digital cockpits that can be used in ICE- and electric-powered vehicles.

The partnership between the three companies will see Visteon and Qualcomm Technologies develop intelligent, platform-based solutions that provide drivers with personalized automotive cockpit experiences. The future system will utilize the 3rd-generation Snapdragon Automotive Cockpit Platform and Visteon’s next-generation SmartCore system that can independently operate multiple displays and applications through the cockpit.

“Our cooperation with ECARX and Qualcomm Technologies on intelligent cockpits will offer a compelling new digital experience to users,” president and chief executive of Visteon, Sachin Lawande, said. “Visteon is pleased with the work we’ve done with ECARX and Qualcomm Technologies. Our teams have undergone rapid development, design and integration together, and are committed to delivering technology and creativity for a high-quality cockpit experience across multiple segments.”

Qualcomm is one of the world’s leading chipmakers and has increased its presence in the automotive world significantly in recent years. It was only last week that it announced it would expand its partnership with General Motors in a deal that will see the two companies work together on driver-assist systems, infotainment features, and vehicle-to-everything technologies.

The chipmaker currently works with 20 automakers from around the globe and there are some 150 million vehicles that contain its chips on the road, Auto News reports.

According to Qualcomm’s senior vice president and general manager of its automotive division, Nakul Duggal, the company isn’t “just focused on the silicon, but everything around the silicon. The AI, application stacks, services. The auto industry is changing inside out. The car is changing. The definition of a transportation network is changing. The software that defines the car is changing.”
