If you happen to own a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe then this news concerns you, because it is quite possible that you will have to take it back to the dealer for repairs.

The recall conducted with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) includes 221 units of the 2018-2021 Aventador SVJ Coupe, with a 100 percent estimated defect rate, built between July 4, 2018, and January 15, 2021.

Due to the excessive heat, the engine hood hinge plastic elements may have been deformed, affecting the torque in the retain screws, which could result in an unlatched hood. As the safety agency explains, “the hood may flip open without warning and could fully detach from the vehicle” if the car “is in motion at high speed under strong vertical and longitudinal acceleration”.

Fortunately, there do not seem to be any accidents or injuries related to this condition, which Lamborghini became aware of this January when they received a report “of a possible issue occurred in France with the rear engine hood of the Aventador SVJ Coupe through its dealer network”. Further investigation was conducted, and on February 17, the matter was presented at the Product Safety Committee, where the decision to announce a safety recall was made.

Authorized technicians will replace the hood hinge screws with new ones free of charge. Dealers will be informed on April 9, and the planned owner notification is scheduled for April 9-16. Owners can contact Lamborghini’s customer service at 1-866-681-6276, using the recall number L734-R.01.21, or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
