The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky is getting bigger with a meaningful expansion that will significantly improve its amenities and visitor’s experiences.

The expansion will total 30,000 square feet (2,787 m²) and include two stories for the National Corvette Museum’s curators. They plan to use it to add specialty exhibit spaces with rotating displays, a lifetime members lounge, an open theater space, a kids zone education center, a member’s lounge on the rooftop, and a sensory calming room for guests with unique needs.

“This expansion will give the museum the opportunity to tell more of Corvette’s stories than ever before,” said Derek E. Moore, director of collections at the museum. “When the museum opened, we were only in the fourth generation of Corvette and since then we have seen another four generations of America’s Sports Car. This is our opportunity to ensure that the Museum stays on pace with such a beloved automobile that makes history every day.”

The National Corvette museum opened its doors in 1994 and is located exactly one quarter-mile from the Bowling Green Assembly Plant where Corvettes have been made since 1981. This is the museum’s second expansion since opening. The last expansion came in 2009 when it doubled its size to 115,000 sq-ft.

“This expansion has been something that the Board of Directors has been looking forward to for many years,” said Glenn Johnson, National Corvette Museum Board Chair. “An expansion is needed for the Museum, and with the support of our Members the Museum has continued to grow and we need the space for Museum displays. We are excited about the future of the Museum and when the appropriate funds are raised the expansion will begin.”

The National Corvette Museum hasn’t set a completion date for the expansion. It will work together with its architects, Sewell and Sewell, to make the expansion work as funding comes in. You can donate to the expansion at the NCM’s website.
