A Porsche 911, preferably the Turbo, Turbo S or GT3, would be the ideal sports car for most petrolheads.
However, the 718 Cayman isn’t too shabby either, considering that Porsche has further refined it, and if you choose the GTS or GT4, then you probably won’t feel the need to upgrade too soon.
This is the 718 Cayman GTS 4.0, and it starts at £65,390 ($90,236) in the UK, where this review took place, and $87,400 in the United States. It undercuts the current range-topper, the 414 HP (420 PS / 309 kW) 718 Cayman GT4, by £11,140 ($15,373) and $13,800 respectively.

It uses a mid-mounted 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six developing 394 HP (400 PS / 294 kW) and 309 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, and besides that great PDK, which offers great usability in everyday driving, it can be had with a stick shift as well.
In terms of performance, it needs 4.4 seconds from 0 to 62 mph (0-100 km/h), and can keep pushing up to 182 mph (293 km/h). By comparison, the 718 Cayman GT4 is just 0.1 seconds quicker and can hit a maximum speed of 189 mph (304 km/h).
It is decently practical too for a car in this class, but let’s be honest, no one’s going to buy such a ride based on that. Thus, the things that matter are the design, build quality, tech gear, engine noise and handling. And fortunately, as this review points out, it checks most of those boxes.
