The Kia Carnival was launched in the States in late February and there’s already an issue serious enough to warrant a recall.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration issued a recall on the Carnival as a result of a damaged fuel rail tube. According to the filing, 2,744 vehicles are included in the recall.

Fortunately, just 1 percent are expected to have actually been fitted with the faulty fuel rail tube, but the consequences may be severe so all vehicles have been recalled as, with gasoline leaking near the engine, there is a fire risk.

The Carnival was unveiled on February 23 as a seven- or eight-passenger minivan powered by a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 290 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Sales have commenced recently, with prices starting at $32,100 in the U.S.

Owners of the Carnival will be contacted by Kia to bring their vehicle to dealerships and have it inspected. Vehicles with a damaged fuel rail tube will have their multiport injection fuel rail replaced at no charge. Mailed notices are being sent out as of April 30.
