Volkswagen intends to manufacture and sell more electric vehicles in the United States than originally planned, bolstered by President Biden’s $174 billion plan to accelerate the push towards electrification.

While recently speaking with reporters in Munich, Germany, VW brand development chief Thomas Ulbrich said that the administration has created a new proposition for EVs in the market, without providing more context. Ulbrich added that the car manufacturer is readying plans “to realign to this in a massive way,” Bloomberg reports.

Ulbrich added that Volkswagen’s updated electric car strategy for the U.S. is being worked out and will be ready for the company’s annual investment review later in the year.

Volkswagen intends on launching roughly 70 electric vehicles by the end of the decade and plans to be building EVs at eight different factories around the work by 2022, most of which will be made in Europe and China. The only electric model from VW confirmed for production in North America so far is the ID.4, but with these new plans, it will likely be joined by other models moving forward.

Two new electric models that VW will launch this year include the ID.5 and ID.6. It has also pulled forward plans for a subcompact EV to sit below the ID.3 that’s expected to cost less than €25,000 (~$30,000) and will land in 2025. One of the company’s most significant EVs will be the ‘Project Trinity’ that is set to arrive in 2026 and will be the automaker’s technological flagship.
