ABT Sportsline has wasted no time in adding some extra spice to the Mk8 VW Golf R and has just revealed a tuning kit for it.

The new VW Golf R is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that pumps out 315 hp and 310 lb-ft in. That’s a lot of power for a hot hatch and allows the car to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.7 seconds.

Not satisfied, ABT has fitted the Golf R with a new engine control unit (ECU) that boosts those figures up to 384 hp and 347 lb-ft (470 Nm) of torque. The tuner hasn’t said how much quicker its tuned Golf R is to 62 mph but we suspect it can probably hit that mark in around 4.0 seconds flat, putting it not far behind the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S and Audi RS3 while ensuring it is significantly quicker than front-wheel drive rivals like the Honda Civic Type R.

The car displayed in these photos has also been equipped with a set of ABT’s own wheels finished in gloss black and also features a black livery on the thick C-pillars.

These are just the start of the modifications that ABT is developing for the latest Golf R. In fact, it is working on a new exhaust system for the car and will also offer new springs for the suspension. We wouldn’t be surprised to see ABT go even beyond these upgrades as the Mk8 Golf R continues to mature, potentially offering various mechanical upgrades for the engine.
