Polestar will double its global presence by the end of 2021, opening a plethora of new retail locations and entering new markets.

In a statement, the Swedish electric car manufacturer has confirmed that it will launch in 8 new global markets this year, doubling the total markets to 18. These new markets consist of Austria, Denmark, Finland, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Korea, and Singapore. They join the U.S., China, Canada, Belgium, Germany, UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Norway, and Switzerland.

Polestar is also doubling its number of retail facilities around the world and is adding what it refers to as Polestar Destinations. These will join the pre-existing Polestar Spaces retail spaces that are typically located in city center locations. Polestar Destinations sites will be located at larger, easy-to-access out-of-town locations.

“We are expanding both within markets in which we already have a presence and into new markets extremely rapidly,” Polestar chief executive Thomas Ingenlath said. “As a brand that has only been fully operational for just over 12 months, this sort of footprint is unprecedented. We aim to expand at a similar rate in terms of new markets in 2022 as well. This continued pace, combined with new retail concepts, will support our goal to exceed our owners’ expectations.”

In the United States, Polestar is adding locations in Orange County, California, New Jersey, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Grapevine, Texas. These will join its pre-existing service centers and retail stores in Austin, Bellevue, Washington, Boston, Detroit, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Princeton, New Jersey, San Francisco, San Jose, and Scottsdale.

“We focus on ensuring that customers can interact with the brand and our cars on their terms. A refined online buying environment is backed-up by physical locations to help drive awareness and sales,” added head of sales at Polestar Mike Whittington. “Our new Destination concept gives customers even more access to the brand, and fits some of our newer markets particularly well.”
