Volkswagen’s electric ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 crossover have undergone changes in their ordering process in the UK. Whereas previously trim levels came preconfigured with certain options, leaving only wheel and color customizations left, buyers will now be able to choose the trim that best fits their needs and add whatever options they want on top.

Using the Augmented Reality Heads-Up Display (AR HUD) as an example, the option was previously unable to be fitted on any ID.3 trim level other than the Max or Tour. Now, however, buyers can choose any trim level they want, then add Volkswagen‘s Infotainment Package Plus to receive the AR HUD plus the additional speakers that come with the package.

While each trim level will still feature some predetermined options, buyers will now be able to add more if they so choose, and to make this new ordering process a bit less complicated, at least for the ID.3, its trim structure has been updated. The recently-introduced “City” trim has been renamed “Life”, while the “Business” and “Tech” have been dropped entirely.

Other changes for the 2022 model year include new pricing for the ID.3. Under this new strategy, two more variants become eligible for the UK government’s Plug-In Vehicle Grant, with the ID.3 Family Pro and Family Pro Performance now sitting under the £35,000 threshold, thereby making them eligible for the £2,500 grant. The two models are now priced at £33,640 and £34,960 respectively, and they’ll drop to £31,140 and £32,460 with the grant applied. Other pricing changes to the ID.3 range include the Tour being reduced by £3,800 to £38,800, and the Max now starting at £37,730.
