The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing could prove to be one of the last great ICE-powered sports sedans and recently, the first journalists had the chance to put it through its paces both on the road and on the track.

Powering the CT5-V Blackwing is a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 derived from the engine that drove the previous-generation CTS-V, the predecessor to this car. It now features aluminum cylinder heads, titanium intake valves, an improved intake, and a revised exhaust system. This all culminates in an extraordinary 668 hp and 659 lb-ft (893 Nm) of torque, 28 hp and 29 lb-ft (39 Nm) more than the CTS-V.

This engine is coupled as standard to a six-speed manual transmission but customers can order the CT5-V Blackwing with a 10-speed automatic that allows it to hit 60 mph (96km/h) in 3.7 seconds and a top speed exceeding 200 mph (322 km/h).

The review from Carlos Lago over at Edmunds is well worth a watch and also includes an overview of the CT5-V Blackwing’s baby brother, the CT4-V Blackwing. Lago is blown away by the performance the CT5-V offers and is stunned by how much fun it is to drive. He is also particularly fond of the six-speed manual that includes a flat-foot shifting function and auto rev-matching.

Jay Leno also had the opportunity to take an up-close look at the car and tested it out on the road where a representative suggests that up to 50 per cent of buyers will opt for the six-speed manual.
