The next-generation Range Rover is edging closer to production and for the very first time, has been spied in SVR guise.

We’re all familiar with the Range Rover Sport SVR and already have confirmation it will survive into the SUV’s latest generation. What’s interesting about this particular Range Rover prototype is that it appears to be an SVR version of the full-size model, not the smaller Sport.

Even though the SUV is covered in camouflage, we can see that it sits a lot lower than other Range Rover prototypes. It also has quad tailpipes and that can only mean one thing, a V8 engine.

Powertrain details have yet to be confirmed but we suspect the Range Rover SVR will have the same twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter BMW-sourced V8 as the Range Rover Sport SVR. This engine will replace the supercharged 5.0-liter V8 used by previous SVR models and should pump out around 600 hp.

It will be interesting to see what other modifications Land Rover makes to the Range Rover SVR. Obviously, it won’t want to step on the toes of the Range Rover Sport SVR and may not be quite as focused on performance. The different body style will also distinguish it from the Sport, as will unique front and rear fascias.

A host of other powertrains will be offered for the 2023 Range Rover thanks to the flexibility of the Modular Longitudinal Architecture that underpins it. This platform doesn’t just offer support for traditional internal combustion engines but also mild hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and electric powertrains.
