Ford is working on an electric crate motor and will showcase it at the SEMA Show in November.

The crate motor is called the Eluminator and it was teased during Ford’s event at the Woodward Dream Cruise last night.  It’s set to become available this fall and is billed as an ideal offering for electromods.

Ford was tight-lipped on specifics, but told us the motor will produce 281 hp  (210 kW / 285 PS) and 318 lb-ft (431 Nm) of torque. Those are decent figures and Ford’s Chief Product Platform and Operations Officer, Hau Thai-Tang, noted the output is higher than what was available on the Fox body Mustang.

Furthermore, CAD files released by Ford Performance show the electric motor is 22.5 inches (570 mm) long, making it significantly smaller than Ford’s traditional crate engines. That being said, it will need to be accompanied by a battery pack.

Ford isn’t the only automaker working on electric crate engines as Chevrolet introduced an electric 1977 K5 Blazer last year. It featured a Volt-sourced powertrain with a 60 kWh battery pack as well as an electric motor that developed 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) and 266 lb-ft (361 Nm) of torque.
