Just after being announced in Europe, the 2022 Kia Sportage has been unveiled for the Australian market.

Unlike the European-spec model, the Aussie model is the same size as those sold in every other major market. As such, it is 4,660 mm (183.4-inches) long, 1,865 mm (73.4-inches) wide, 1,660 mm (65.3-inches) tall, and has a 2,755 mm (108.4-inch) wheelbase. It also offers 1,050 mm (41.3 inches) of legroom for second-row passengers and 1,000 mm (39.3 inches) of headroom.

As we can all agree, the exterior design of the new Sportage is a radical departure from the previous-generation model. Some will love it, some will hate it. Among the key changes made include an enlarged tiger nose front grille, boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights and muscular, shapely bodywork that will certainly give it a unique presence the street.

Like other Kia models, the all-new Sportage has had its suspension system tweaked for Australian roads. Two engines will be offered: a 1.6-liter TGDI four-cylinder with 177 hp (132 kW) and 195 lb-ft (265 Nm) and an R2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder producing 183 hp (137 kW) and 307 lb-ft (416 Nm).

Like the outgoing model, the 2022 Kia Sportage will be sold in S, SX, SX+, and GT-Line guises. All of these models feature a raft of upgrades and improvements over the old model. Among these are features like 8-inch and 12.3-inch infotainment displays, LED lights, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, front center airbag, Blind Spot Collision Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Assist, Lane Follow Assist, Multi Collision Brake, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, and Electronic Park Brake.

Kia Australia will release more detailed specifications, including pricing details, closer to the SUV’s local arrival in October.
