The 2023 Nissan Z has plenty of design features paying homage to its long list of predecessors. While the headlights have strong 240ZG vibes, the rear end is a clear nod to the 300ZX. Like most of the kids who grew up in the ’90s, I have a sweet spot for the Nissan 300ZX (1989 – 2000), so I couldn’t help but wonder how would the new Z look if it was designed as a Z32 hommage. Thankfully, there is an independently created rendering addressing just that.

Siim Pärn, the lead designer of 7 Designs who recently presented a bodykit for the Maserati MC20, had the idea to infuse more elements from the 1990 300ZX to the body of the 2022 Z. As you can see from his renderings, the end result looks quite promising.

Pärn started by extending both front and rear overhangs of the Z and adding wider fenders. Then he added 300ZX-inspired headlights with modern LED graphics, a flat bonnet, and a sleek bumper with elongated intakes making the car look even wider. At the back, he opted for larger taillights while retaining the rounded rectangular shape of the LEDs behind the black panel.

While the renderings already looked awesome, Siim took it a step further by creating a Nismo-badged performance variant. This one got a different bumper with larger intakes and a prominent splitter, side intakes on the front fenders, extended side sills, six-spoke wheels from the GT-R, a carbon-fiber diffuser, beefier tailpipes, and a fixed rear wing.

If you like the renderings as much as we do, you will probably wonder if this could be translated to a real-life bodykit. Judging from the extent of the modifications in terms of the proportions of the car (length, width, overhangs) it would be impossible to make it look exactly like the digital proposal. However, with a new set of front fenders, headlights, front bumper, and bonnet, the Z could potentially get a lot closer to the 300ZX in terms of design.
