Porsche’s famed Paint to Sample program is being expanded and we should expect to see many more striking Porsche models on the roads.

The German automaker has announced that 160 new pre-approved colors will be available through the Paint to Sample program. Individuals after a completely bespoke color can go through the Paint to Sample Plus program.

The number of available standard Paint to Sample colors depends on the model. For example, more than 100 colors are offered for the 911 and 718 models while the Panamera, Macan, and Cayenne have access to more than 50 Paint to Sample choices. The all-electric Taycan has 65 color choices through the program.

A new color mixing bank went online at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen factory earlier this year, allowing for the expansion of the Paint to Sample program. These changes will allow Porsche to increase capacity of 911 models from roughly five Paint to Sample cars per day to about 20 cars per day.

Whereas pricing for Porsche’s standard array of metallic and non-metallic colors ranges from $650 to $3,270, Paint to Sample colors are much more expensive. In fact, they cost $11,430 for most 911 and 718 models. That price increases to $12,830 for the 718 GT, 911 Turbo, Turbo S, and 911 GT3 models.

The Paint to Sample Plus program goes one step further. Here, a customer provides a sample to their dealer who sends it to Porsche AG where it is subjected to extensive quality and feasibility testing. This testing can take up to 11 months. Prices for most Paint to Sample Plus models sits at a cool $22,860 while prices rise to $25,660 for the 911 Turbo, 911 GT3 models, and 718 GT models.

“Individualization is at the core of Porsche,” president and chief executive of Porsche Cars North America, Kjell Gruner said. “Paint to Sample is integral in satisfying that demand. With this offering, we bring many historic colors back to life and expand the catalog to a total of more than 160 choices.”
