If you cast your minds back a few decades ago, it was unthinkable that some of the world’s most premium and exclusive car manufacturers would begin producing high-end SUVs. Among the most expensive and luxurious SUVs currently on sale is the Bentley Bentayga and rendering expert Abimelec Design recently decided to imagine what it could have looked like if it launched in 1989.

While brainstorming ideas about a classic Bentley SUV, the artist opted for something with a tougher-looking and boxier design than the current Bentayga and more similar to classic Range Rover models. It also takes inspiration from the Bentley Dominator, a Range Rover-based SUV limited to just six units and built exclusively for the Sultan of Brunei in the 1990s.

With this in mind, this (imaginary) classic Bentayga has similar overall proportions to the original Range Rover but adds some luxurious elements that make it fitting of a Bentley badge. For example, it features a classic Bentley front grille finished in chrome and a set of old Bentley-style headlights.

The SUV has also been fitted with large wheels that feature chrome hubcaps and also sports chrome across the wing mirrors, window surrounds, and roof rack. Moreover, the unique Bentley features continue at the rear with distinctive badges, dual tailpipes, and more lashings of chrome.

Abimelec Design has also imagined the SUV as featuring a turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 engine that drives a selectable four-wheel drive system so it wouldn’t be restricted to tarmac but could venture off the beaten path if the driver so wished.
