A rare Nissan Autech Zagato Stelvio AZ1 is currently up for sale in France and could be one of the lowest mileage examples on earth.

The intriguing coupe was designed by Zagato and built by Nissan subsidiary Autech. Just 104 examples were ever produced, each based around the Nissan Leopard, also known as the Infiniti M30 back in the day.

There have been some weird and wacky cars produced in recent decades but this is certainly one of the most bizarre. It looks unlike anything else Nissan was producing during the late 1980s and early 1990s and the front end is particularly intriguing.

For starters, there is an absolutely tiny grille between the simple, horizontal headlights. The Zagato Stelvio AZ1 also features bizarre humps on the front quarter panels where are actually used to house the wing mirrors. We’ve never driven an AZ1 but can’t imagine the mirrors are particularly useful.

The odd design choices continue along the sides of the car with intriguing wheels that are almost completely covered, albeit for a single aerodynamic NACA duct on each one.

This particular example has been listed up for sale from L’Art De L’Automobile in France and has apparently been driven just 900 km (559 miles) since leaving the factory. As such, it appears to be in excellent condition both inside and out, although the black leather on the seats does show some signs of aging.

Powering the car Nissan is a twin-turbo V6 engine with 280 hp and coupled to a four-speed ZF transmission. It has an asking price of €99,000 (~$111,000).
