The past 12 months have been more challenging for the auto industry than an extra hard Mensa test. Between workers catching COVID and factories being forced to idle production lines because of a shortage of semiconductors, 2021 was a frustrating year.

The good news for those OEMs is that people still want to buy cars, and judging by the list we’ve put together further down this page of the new cars appearing in 2022, that’s not going to change now that we got to the other side of the holiday season. Between the cars due to be unveiled in the next 12 months and the ones we’ve already seen finally landing in showrooms, it’s shaping up to be a bumper year.

On the enthusiast front we’ve got the return of the famous Acura Integra badge after a long layoff to look forward to, a new BMW M2 coupe and the first ever M3 Touring. There’s also the updated Subaru WRX, Nissan’s 400 hp retro-look Z coupe, a new Honda Civic Type R and Toyota’s first ever GR Corolla hot hatch.

Car fans shopping further up the performance food chain for something even slinkier are equally spoiled for choice. Ferrari’s 296 GTB hybrid hits dealers this year, as does the new Mercedes-AMG SL, Lotus Emira, McLaren Artura and Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

Predictably, we’ll see an influx of crossovers and SUVs, including the Mazda CX-50, Alfa Romeo Tonale and Maserati Grecale. But the real action is in the electric car market, which is no longer an obscure niche, but rapidly spreading into every sector, from humble crossovers to genuine performance cars.

The Toyota bZ4X is the sharpest looking affordable EV we’ve seen from any automaker, and if you’re still waiting to be convinced that any electric model can get the car enthusiast in you excited, the Hyundai Ioniq 5N, BMW XM and Porsche Macan EV will be doing their best to bring your around.

And last, but certainly not least, we might finally get to see a production version of Tesla’s crazy Cybertruck. We’re telling you, it’s going to be a wild year. Which cars are you most looking forward to seeing? Leave a comment and let us know.

Note: The following list will be constantly updated. Feel free to chime in the comments if you think we missed something
