The Ford Excursion is most often remembered for its lumbering size that was ahead of its time. Today, similarly-sized brand-new SUVs are everywhere but back in 2000, the Excursion was the only ticket in town. A number of factors including that position in history just led to one with 101,000 miles selling for no less than $67,500.

There’s no secret that the used car market is going nuts right now. Due to a shortage of parts, manufacturers can’t get new cars on dealer lots fast enough. Many of those who do get new cars are marking them up so much that it’s unbelievable. Despite that, we can’t be so sure that this Excursion is worth the price tag.

Sold recently on Bring A Trailer, the example in question features a 7.3-liter Powerstroke diesel engine and a four-speed automatic transmission mated to a dual-range transfer case and four-wheel-drive. It’s one of the most desirable configurations of the Excursion when it comes to drivetrain options. The interior and exterior aren’t bad either.

Outside, the giant SUV is clad in Estate Green Metallic paint which is in great condition considering the mileage on the vehicle. Perhaps even more impressive is the interior which looks very well kept too. It features leather upholstery in a color oddly called Medium Parchment. What would Full Parchment look like? The world can only wonder.

Either way, this SUV has a lot of additional desirable options including heated front seats, front and rear air conditioning, and cruise control. It even comes with a clean Carfax report. Still, this feels like a bit of an overpay to us. And that’s to say nothing of all of the stuff that it’s missing with regard to more modern features, handling, and safety.

On March 19 of this year, another example with the same paint, the same interior color, the same drivetrain, and just 24,000-more miles sold for just $36,600. In addition, online records indicate that this exact same SUV was for sale just two months ago in Michigan with an asking price of $34,900. We’ve reached out to that dealer for confirmation and will update this story if we hear back.

If true, that could mean that the auction seller nearly doubled their money and made more than $30,000 in just two months’ time. Maybe we should all be shopping for a similarly hidden-away Excursion.
