Work continues on the 2024 BMW X6 as spy photographers have snapped a prototype undergoing testing on and around the Nürburgring.

Dressed in heavy camouflage, the prototype doesn’t reveal much about the upcoming production model. However, the updates will be focused on the front end and echo those found on the facelifted X5.

While the camouflage does a good job of hiding the changes, we can expect a revised grille and slimmer headlights. They’ll be joined by a new front bumper that features a revised central intake with angular supports. We can also expect edgier intakes and J-shaped air curtains.

Additional changes are limited, but we wouldn’t be surprised if the upcoming production model was outfitted with new taillights and updated wheels. We can also see what appears to be a revised exhaust system.

Bigger updates will occur in the cabin as previous spy photos have shown the model will adopt a new Curved Display, which consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment system. Besides the new screens, we can expect a minimalist shifter and updated switchgear.

Since this is a relatively minor update, engine options will presumably carryover. As a result, we can expect a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder with 335 hp (250 kW / 340 PS) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. It may be joined by a familiar turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 developing 523 hp (390 kW / 530 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque.

That being said, performance improvements are possible and it’s worth noting the redesigned 7-Series has a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline-six developing 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 383 lb-ft (519 Nm) of torque. Likewise, the luxury sedan’s 4.4-liter V8 pumps out a healthier 536 hp (400 kW / 543 PS) and 553 lb-ft (749 Nm) of torque.
