Mitsubishi announced the all-new ASX at the beginning of the year as an upcoming sibling to the Renault Captur and the Nissan Juke. Today, a new press release from Mitsubishi Germany details the five engine options of the upcoming crossover, which is set to be unveiled in September 2022.

The Mitsubishi ASX will share the CMF-B platform with the Renault Captur so it was expected to borrow the engine options from its French sibling. The range will start with the turbocharged 1.0 MPI-T three-cylinder petrol engine producing 90 hp (67 kW / 91 PS), and mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Those who want more power can opt for the turbocharged 1.3 DI-T four-cylinder coming in two guises – 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS) mated to a six-speed manual, or 156 hp (116 kW / 158 PS) mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Moving on to the electrified options, the ASX will use the hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains from the Renault Captur E-Tech. Both are using a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter petrol engine with two electric motors and a sophisticated multi-mode gearbox sending power to the front axle.

The difference has to do with the power output and the battery size. More specifically, the self-charging hybrid offers a combined 143 hp (107 kW / 145 PS) and comes with a 1.3 kWh battery. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid produces a combined 158 hp (118 kW / 160 PS) and comes with a larger 10.5 kWh battery that can be charged by an external source allowing a longer EV-only range similar to the 50 km (30 miles) of the Renault Captur E-Tech.

Styling-wise the new ASX is expected to have nothing in common with its aging predecessor, opting for a sportier silhouette. As hinted at by the official teaser, the model will feature a new grille merging with the LED headlights, strong dynamic lines on the bonnet, and pronounced wheel arches. The latest teaser reveals part of the rear end, with the sculpted tailgate and a small portion of the LED taillights.

We will learn more about the new Mitsubishi ASX in the official debut this September. Sales are scheduled to start in European markets in spring 2023, bringing Mitsubishi to the core of the highly competitive small SUV segment (B-SUV). All five engine variants will be available from launch. Besides the new ASX, Mitsubishi will also revive the Colt supermini, in the form of a rebadged Renault Clio.
