The next-generation Hyundai Kona has been spied testing, providing us with a new look at its design.

While this prototype is covered in camouflage and body cladding, it is slightly more revealing than the 2024 Kona that our spy photographers snapped in late April. The front end immediately stands out thanks to a full-width LED light bar just like the one found on the Hyundai Staria.

We can also see that Hyundai has overhauled the design of the Kona’s front bumper, re-shaping the grille and crafting triangular air intakes. The design of the headlights have also been changed and they are more angular in shape.

Camouflage hides most of the other design details of the new Kona. The rear fascia appears to be similar in shape to the outgoing model, complete with a similarly-high tailgate and small rear window. It also looks to sport a split LED taillight design.

Previous spy photos of the 2024 Kona have revealed that its interior will be redesigned and take inspiration from the all-electric Ioniq 5. The most obvious change will be a single large screen housing the digital instrument cluster and the infotainment display. Positioned directly below this screen will be simple air vents while found below them will be a Start/Stop button and various buttons for the media controls. A new steering wheel will also be featured.

Powertrain details remain unclear. With that being said, it is possible that the new Kona will be available with the same hybridized 1.6-liter as the 2023 Kia Niro, pumping out 139 hp and 195 lb-ft (264 Nm) of torque. A new Kona EV might borrow its powertrain from the Niro EV, making use of a 64.8 kWh battery pack and a 201 hp electric motor, while a new performance-focused Kona N is also expected.
