One of the world’s oldest automotive coachbuilders, Carrozzeria Castagna Milano, is still going strong and has shown off its latest project. Prepared for this week’s Milan Mobile Salon, it calls the one-off Peugeot 308 GT Castagna an “homage to green.”

Finished in an intriguing two-tone paint job, the car is predominantly painted glossy forest green. Around the rear wheel arches and on the rocker panels, though, it is painted a much paler matte green. The effect of the scheme is to highlight body lines pressed into the steel by Peugeot and to give the rear, which is also mostly glossy green, a hit of visual intrigue thanks to a pinstripe-like line of matte green that stretches across the tailgate, above the badge.

Inside, meanwhile, Castagna Milano has gone all out with the leather. This being an homage to green, the ceiling, A-pillars, and dash top are all upholstered in green suede that’s highlighted by green, apparently carbon fiber, trim panels.

Lower down on the dash and the door cards, the green is complemented by grey suede that is paired with a caramel-colored leather. That eventually cedes to a richly grained dark brown leather that can be found on the seat bolsters, along the door frame, and on the steering wheel hub.

Castagna Milano makes no mention of modifying the drivetrain, but it doesn’t seem likely. The flagship Peugeot 308 GT is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 180 hp (134 kW/182 PS) with a 109 hp (81 kW/110 PS) electric motor. It has a 12.4 kWh battery that delivers 36 miles (58 km) of all-electric range.

Carrozzeria Castagna, meanwhile, was founded in 1849 when Carlo Castagna bought the Ferrari coachbuilding business. Its first coachbuilt automobile with a combustion engine was a Benz quadricycle and it later worked with illustrious names like Isotta Fraschini, Duesenberg, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and others. Although it ceased operating in 1954, the company name was revived in the ’90s and it has recently worked on Fiat 500s, Minis, and others.
